Outstanding Modern Architecture
Akasha is an impressive example of modern Australian architecture –emerging from our climate, the landscape, a wealth of solid and fine materials and a unique vision. It is artful and daring and draws on those factors in ways that are both unique and thoughtful.
This design turns traditional thinking on its head – making full use of the site’s orientation, with the pool in the front yard to take advantage of the northern sun. Full length windows maximise light – with minimal windows facing West (to reduce the harsh western sun).
Plentiful views of Surrey Hill’s leafy trees and windows facing the central courtyard – seamlessly connects the inside home with the surrounding environment.

Nick’s vision for AKASHA…
“For Akasha, I was inspired by a great architectural exhibition and thought of the architectural challenges with this site and location. I also needed to accommodate the land fall into design options and ensured the vision included;
• A nice and simple elevation with a good plan.
• A central alfresco with overlooking liveable areas.
• External modern square/rectangular ‘blocky’ elements to elevations.
The house was named AKASHA.
The notion of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water was a major factor in my thinking for this modern contemporary statement. The name conjures up a peaceful, tranquil style that embraces the 4 key elements – both externally and internally. Not dissimilar to the design of the home.
I am proud of what has been achieved”.
What our clients say…
“Comdain’s attention to our needs was always first on their mind. The quality of the accessories used to finish our house were of the highest quality. The number of compliments we have received on our house from friends and family are too numerous to mention.”
“The standard of workmanship was first class and the site managers were assiduous in their attention to detail.”
